Head of Construction

Reporting to: Senior Leadership
AG London is seeking an experienced Head of Construction to lead and grow our construction insurance offering from London. This role will have responsibility for developing strategy, building market presence, and overseeing the placement and management of construction risks into Lloyd’s and the wider London market. The successful candidate will need to bring deep technical expertise, strong market relationships, and proven leadership capability to develop and support a leading construction practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the placement and management of construction risks into Lloyd’s and the wider London market, including Construction All Risks (CAR), Erection All Risks (EAR), Builders Risk (US), Contractors Plant & Equipment (CPE), and associated revenue coverages.
- Develop and execute strategy in line with AG London’s business objective to be a leading London Wholesale specialist.
- Build and maintain senior relationships with Lloyd’s underwriters, company markets, and global retail/wholesale brokerages.
- Oversee the preparation and presentation of high-quality market submissions, ensuring technical accuracy and strong commercial positioning.
- Negotiate terms, pricing, and coverage structures to deliver optimal outcomes for clients and trading partners.
- Manage renewals, new business production, and complex placement strategies across the construction portfolio.
- Ensure compliance with Lloyd’s, FCA, and internal governance and risk management standards.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and oversight to construction team members as the platform grows.
- Work closely with operations, claims, and senior leadership to deliver a consistent and high-quality client and partner experience.
- Contribute to market insight, capacity discussions, and long-term business planning initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience in a senior construction insurance role within the London market with prior US experience preferred.
- Strong Lloyd’s market experience with in-depth understanding of construction risks and placements.
- Established relationships with Lloyd’s and London market construction underwriters.
- Excellent technical knowledge of construction wordings, project structures, and risk profiles.
- Demonstrated leadership capability with experience building and managing portfolios and teams.
- Commercially astute, strategic, and comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial environment.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
